Reduce Stress, Build Confidence
The hospice is offering public Art for Wellbeing classes in drawing and painting. These classes take place in our Art Room set in beautiful surroundings and are facilitated by one of the dedicated artists from the hospice’s Creative Arts Service.
The Arts Service at the hospice has a long-established creative approach in delivering high quality art sessions for patients, carers, and family members.
Art making has been proven to reduce stress, build confidence, offer a sense of fulfilment and happiness, and to help improve general wellbeing. Being creative helps us to feel connected - to ourselves, the wider world and to others.
Develop your own Art
In the Art for Wellbeing classes, you will have access to a range of quality art materials and will be supported in developing your own art practice, emphasising creating a relaxing and supportive experience that supports wellbeing. Sessions are tailored to each individual and are suitable for complete beginners and those with more experience.
“I was soon absorbed in the creative process of watercolours, yet very aware of the light approach of the hospice artist as they flitted between my colleagues. There was a word of encouragement, a passing comment on the basic pencil outline, a quiet suggestion on colour options, praise for the boldness of the brush strokes and positive snippets that build confidence and make you feel you are going in the right direction.”
Experienced Artists
Our artists are all fine art graduates and are highly experienced in working in the field of arts for health and wellbeing and bring a range of creative skills.
Costs include a block of 6 classes, tuition, art materials and access to our inspiring collection of art books. Numbers are capped at a maximum of 8 people per class.
“The artists bring the best out of everyone. People from all walks of life come along. It’s a very special room and a lot of magic happens there. The staff are fantastic and there’s no pressure. I think that’s the most important thing. It never ceases to amaze me what people can achieve, it’s very inspiring.”
