Our sustainability commitments
At The Prince & Prince of Wales Hospice, sustainability is about responsibility.
We rely on the generosity of our community to fund hospice care. It is only right that we use those resources carefully, minimise waste and operate in a way that reflects the values we stand for.
Our retail operation plays a central role in this.
Reducing waste through reuse
Every year, thousands of items are donated to our shops. By reselling clothing, furniture and household goods, we extend their life and prevent them from going to landfill.
This is not a side benefit. It is core to how charity retail works.
In 2025, almost 250,000 items were sold through our network of Hospice Shops, keeping garments, textiles and other goods in circulation and preventing much of this from going to landfill.
From mid-2026, we will be able to report publicly on the total tonnes of CO2 saved through our retail activity. This will allow us to measure and evidence the collective environmental impact created by our supporters across Glasgow and beyond.
Worthwhile Wardrobe
Our Worthwhile Wardrobe campaign highlights the environmental value of shopping second-hand.
Choosing pre-loved clothing reduces textile waste, lowers carbon impact and supports hospice care at the same time.

Reuse within our Hospice Shops
We apply the same principles behind the scenes.
Where possible, we reuse and repurpose furniture for shop fittings. Shelving, display units and fixtures are adapted rather than replaced. Materials from refits are redeployed across our retail estate. This reduces waste and builds sustainability into how we operate, not just what we sell.
Carrier bags and practical choices
We do not routinely supply new plastic carrier bags.
Instead, we reuse donated bags to keep them in circulation. This avoids purchasing new stock that is likely to be discarded quickly.
We are currently exploring recycled, branded cloth bags as a longer-term option, providing a durable alternative that customers can use again and again.
Why this matters
Hospice care depends on community support. Sustainability is part of honouring that support.
By donating, shopping and supporting our retail activity, you help to:
- Reduce waste
- Cut carbon emissions
- Keep goods in circulation
- Fund specialist hospice care
We are committed to measuring our impact properly, reporting it transparently and improving how we operate over time. This is about stewardship, not slogans.
