A group of dedicated hospice volunteers is taking on a new challenge to raise awareness of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, located in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow.
Twelve individuals from a variety of backgrounds have come together to form the hospice’s new Speakers’ Bureau, following specialist training and the launch of a brand-new presentation detailing the hospice story.
Speakers’ Bureau volunteers are available to attend local community groups, events, meetings, and other gatherings upon request, where they will share information about the hospice — its mission, values, and the vital services it provides to the local community.
Speakers’ Bureau volunteer, Loretta Scott, said: “I’m passionate about supporting the hospice and, as a member of the Speakers’ Bureau, I will be helping spread the word of the tremendous service it provides, its high-quality compassionate care for those with life limiting illnesses and the comforting memories that it gives bereaved families.”
“I worked professionally with the hospice in my previous role in Glasgow City Council Education Services and when I retired, it was an easy transition to volunteering.
“Volunteering is the gift that keeps on giving!”
Peter Samson, also a newly appointed member of the Speakers’ Bureau, reflected on how he became involved: “I was invited to tour the hospice before it officially opened. From that first moment of seeing inside this special place I wanted to become a volunteer.
“Working with the Speakers’ Bureau and sharing the hospice’s story, helps break down misconceptions and shows the compassionate, life-affirming care it provides.
“Spreading the word about the hospice’s amazing services also helps inspire others to support, volunteer, or seek help when it’s most needed.”
Anyone who is holding an event or is part of a group can request a Speakers’ Bureau volunteer to attend by completing a request form on the hospice’s website www.ppwh.org.uk
Rhona Baillie OBE, Chief Executive of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, said:
“We’re so grateful to our group of volunteers who are so passionate about sharing the good work of the hospice, more widely in the community.
“We understand that, for many, the hospice can feel like a scary or unfamiliar place. Through the Speakers’ Bureau, we aim to break down those barriers and give people a real insight into the warmth, compassion, and care at the hospice.”
