When Megan McGill and her husband decided to get married, they knew they wanted to keep things simple. They planned a small, low-budget registry wedding and organised the whole thing in just three months.
When it came to finding a wedding dress, Megan knew she didn’t have the time or budget for something that needed lots of alterations.
“I started looking on the high street and online for a simple white dress, but I was really disappointed with what was available.
“A lot of the dresses were expensive for what they were and the quality just wasn’t great. I would find a dress I quite liked, then check Vinted to see how it looked after it had been worn a few times. Even second-hand, some were still £60 or £70.
“I’ve always loved charity shops, so I was delighted when the Hospice Shop below my office had a Worthwhile Wardrobe wedding pop-up.”
Megan went down on her lunch break two days in a row to try on dresses. On the second day, she found the one.
“I couldn’t believe the quality and it fitted pretty much perfectly. As soon as I tried it on, I knew it was the one.
“I took it back upstairs to work and even put it on again in the toilets to show my best friend, who I work with!
“I love that finding the dress has become part of the story of our wedding too.”
On her wedding day, Megan said guests couldn’t believe where she had found her dress.
“Everyone who commented on my dress was amazed when I told them it came from a charity shop. I looked up the designer afterwards and found that some of his dresses sell for more than £500.
“I’m so grateful to Worthwhile Wardrobe. Finding the dress felt like it was meant to be.”

The collection includes occasion wear for weddings, parties and other special events, giving shoppers the chance to find something special while making a more sustainable choice.
The idea is simple. Buy an outfit, enjoy wearing it and, when you’re finished with it, re-donate it so someone else can enjoy it too.
By keeping good-quality clothing in use for longer, Worthwhile Wardrobe helps reduce waste while raising vital funds to support the care provided by The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice.
