Glasgow shoppers have a new destination for pre-loved fashion, vintage gems and hidden treasures, with The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice opening the doors to its newest and largest charity shop in the heart of the city.
The Sauchiehall Street Hospice Shop opened its doors on Friday 30 October, welcoming shoppers to explore a fresh new space packed with contemporary clothing, vintage finds, books and more.
There was plenty to celebrate on opening day, with goodie bags for the first ten customers, 10% off for all shoppers and golden tickets hidden throughout the shop offering lucky finders 50% off their chosen item.
Located at 261 Sauchiehall Street, the new shop brings even more choice to the Hospice's growing city-centre retail offering, joining its existing shops on Queen Street, Union Street and Oswald Street, as well as the Charity Super.Mkt in Buchanan Galleries.
Spread over multiple levels, the shop offers something for every kind of treasure hunter. Shoppers can browse a dedicated menswear section, discover contemporary and vintage fashion, explore a spacious bric-a-brac department or take a moment to unwind in the cosy downstairs book nook.
And there's more to the shop than great finds. Every purchase helps support The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, which provides compassionate, specialist palliative care to people across Glasgow and their families
The shop also houses Worthwhile Wardrobe, a popular circular-fashion initiative run in partnership with the University of Glasgow's Adam Smith Business School. The collection features high-end garments donated to the Hospice, giving quality clothing a second life. Customers can return eligible items in exchange for a discount on their next purchase from the collection, helping keep great fashion in circulation for longer.
Angela Renton, Retail Operations Manager at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, said:
“We're delighted to have another shop in such a prime location. City-centre shoppers have been loving our shops and the demand for quality pre-loved clothing is only increasing.
“Sauchiehall Street already has its own vibrant community, and we look forward to being part of it. We’d love to work with local students, businesses and organisations on pop-up events and collaborations that bring people together.”
Carla Wilson, Buyer and Merchandising Manager at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, said:
“The circular economy is a key focus of our shop fits, with reuse and repurposing at the heart of our approach. Before previous tenants leave, we identify and mark materials and fittings that we can reuse. We have done this extensively at our Sauchiehall Street shop, giving existing items a new purpose and saving them from landfill.
“This has also reduced the cost of the shop fit, helping our funds go further in supporting patient care.”
Manish Joshi, Chief Executive of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, added:
“Every item bought on Sauchiehall Street helps us provide free, compassionate care to more than 1,200 new patients and their families each year. Our income generation teams raise more than £7.2 million annually, and our shops play a significant part in that, so this is more than a new shop for us. It’s more care for people across Glasgow when they need it most.
“We can’t wait to welcome new and existing supporters through the doors.”
The shop welcomes donations of good-quality clothing, accessories, books and homeware, and is looking for volunteers to join its team. To find out more about donating, volunteering or the Hospice’s other shops, visit ppwh.org.uk
