When my husband, Paul, was diagnosed with nasal cavity cancer at just 52, our world changed overnight. The cancer spread to his brain and spine, and as his condition worsened, we were overwhelmed by what lay ahead.
When we first heard about the hospice, we didn't know what to expect. But from the moment we arrived, we felt the difference. The care was exceptional. The nurses and doctors were not only incredibly compassionate, they were experts in end-of-life care. Paul was in severe pain and discomfort when he arrived, yet they immediately knew how to help him feel calm, comfortable and cared for.
What meant just as much were the small, thoughtful touches that made such a difficult time a little easier. On Paul's final night, our son, daughter, Paul's parents and I were all able to stay with him. In those peaceful surroundings, we were given precious time together as a family. Time to talk, reflect and simply be together. Those moments will stay with me forever.
That experience is why I choose to give monthly to The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. Because every family deserves the same comfort, care and support when they need it most.
