Allan Maxwell is 53-years-old from the Southside. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2021 and has been attending the Living Well Hub since being referred by a community nurse.
Ongoing care from the hospice has made all the difference to Allan. He says: “Coming to the hospice is now part of my weekly routine, I look forward to it, in fact I rely on it.
“We’re our own wee community, you get to speak with other people who are in similar positions just about everyday stuff.
“I’ve gotten so much out of coming to the Hub. I’ve been introduced to art. I’ve always been interested in photography and through my twice-weekly art classes I’ve learned how to use the iPad to make animations and do designs.
“I’ve gone out on the trishaws around Bellahouston Park and I’ve attended the Summer Sessions concerts through the hospice.
“The physiotherapist has really helped me and kept me mobile. And my pain has been well managed by the Charge Nurse Carolyn. I’ve also tried Reiki which is something I never would have done before but it is absolutely amazing, you can actually feel it helping.
“Coming to the hospice has given me something to focus on and it’s inspired me to do more and try things for the first time.”
