Giving Something Back
Alan Robertson has been a volunteer at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice since 2018. His journey began as a ward volunteer, where he spent time chatting with patients and bringing them a cup of tea.

‘At first, it was outside my comfort zone, but I really loved it. I had some wonderful conversations.’
Following the pandemic, Alan moved into a reception volunteer role, where he welcomes visitors and helps them find their way around the hospice.
‘I truly enjoy it. It feels good to be there for people during what can be a very difficult time in their lives.’
Planning for the Future
When Alan needed to update his Will after his original solicitors closed, he tried another service that unfortunately did not work out. That was when he discovered the hospice’s free Will-writing service.
‘I contacted Dallas McMillan from the list of free Will providers, and they responded straight away. The service was excellent, professional and responsive, and my Will was completed within a week.’
As someone closely connected to the hospice, Alan chose to leave a gift in his Will, but he is clear that there was no obligation to do so.
‘There was absolutely no pressure. I just wanted to give something back. Now I feel at ease knowing everything is in order.’
Alan also valued the reassurance and guidance he received throughout the process, describing it as supportive from start to finish.
A Gift That Makes a Difference
Gifts left in Wills help us continue caring for patients and their families now and in the future. They play a vital role in ensuring compassionate hospice care remains available for everyone who needs it.
