Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice

Frank Gilroy ran a marathon to raise money for Glasgow's Hospice.

Frank Gilroy

“I won the Guinness World Record for the fastest time in a charity mascot at the London Marathon, running as Harvey the hospice mascot. I couldn’t have done it without the support team around me.”

If you're thinking of running a marathon like Frank here are some tips

1. Get organised. The very nature of marathon running means that you are going to need to devote time to training so that you are prepared.

2. Think about distance. Are you ready for a full distance marathon or a shorter half marathon?

3. Which marathon are you going to pick? Marathon's are held all over the world so remember to take into consideration the weather and acclimatisation and make sure that you have the right entry requirements to take part and the right kit?

4. Raise the money – get your sponsorship form out and about, don’t be shy asking for sponsorship. Set up a fundraising page or use ours, and talk about why you are fundraising for The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice.

5. Visit our events' pages to see the marathons that you could do and talk to our fundraising team if you need any more help or advice.
