The BARGACREE Café is the on-site café at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, located at 20 Dumbreck Road, Bellahouston Park, Glasgow, G41 5BW. Open daily from 8.00am to 5.00pm (last orders at 4.30pm), the café welcomes patients, their families, staff and members of the public.

Guests can enjoy beautiful views of the hospice gardens while dining. Operated by hospice staff and dedicated volunteers, BARGACREE Café is also dog friendly, making it the perfect place to stop after a walk in Bellahouston Park.

Kitchen Assistant Volunteer

As a Kitchen Assistant Volunteer, you'll play an important behind the scenes role in helping our café run efficiently. By keeping the kitchen clean, organised and well stocked, you'll support our catering team in providing a welcoming experience for patients, families, visitors, staff and volunteers.

Every clean plate, cup and piece of cutlery helps ensure our café continues to provide excellent service throughout the day.

What You'll Do

• Operate the commercial dishwasher safely and efficiently.
• Wash, dry and store crockery, cutlery, glasses and kitchen equipment.
• Keep the kitchen wash-up area clean, tidy and organised.
• Restock clean crockery and kitchen items ready for service.
• Help maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
• Dispose of waste appropriately and keep work areas safe.
• Support the catering team with general kitchen duties when required.
• Follow food hygiene and health and safety procedures at all times.

Skills and Personal Qualities

• Reliable and dependable.
• Happy working in a busy kitchen environment.
• Good attention to detail.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Positive, friendly and willing to help wherever needed.
• Able to follow instructions and maintain high hygiene standards.
• Willingness to undertake relevant training.

Time Commitment

We ask volunteers to commit to a regular schedule, whether weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

A choice of shifts is available every day.

Training and Support

• Shadow shift with an experienced volunteer before your first shift.
• Food Hygiene Training.
• Hospice Orientation Training.
• Full training on kitchen procedures and equipment.
• Ongoing support from the catering team and fellow volunteers.
